Precisamente un 20 de enero de 1949, nacería en su natal Camagüey, uno de los grandes exponentes de este deporte, y el primero y único que ostenta la categoría de Dr.Cs. en el sector del deporte en Cuba: Iván Román Suárez. El eminente pedagogo, entre sus múltiples condecoraciones ostenta ocho sellos Forjadores del Futuro, la Orden Lázaro Peña en Segundo Grado, Premio Científico del COI, y recientemente fue exaltado al salón de la Fama Latinoamericano de Levantamiento de Pesas. En la actualidad es el presidente del Tribunal Permanente de Ciencias de la Cultura Física.</span></span></span></span></span></span></p>
